Amy Le Ann Richardson
Hello! I am a writer and artist living on my farm in Kentucky.
Amy Le Ann Richardson is an Appalachian writer, educator, and literary organizer whose work explores the relationships between land, memory, community, and generational knowledge in the Appalachian region. She holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Spalding University, a BA in English from Morehead State University, and completed doctoral coursework in Professional Writing and Composition at Oklahoma State University.
Richardson is the founder and director of the Bloodroot Young Writers Collective, a literary arts program for young writers in Eastern Kentucky, and the co-founder and vice president of the Appalachian Literary Arts Festival in Morehead, Kentucky. She has taught writing and literature at several institutions, including Morehead State University, Shawnee State University, and Maysville Community and Technical College.
Her poetry and essays have appeared in numerous journals and anthologies including Still: The Journal, The Appalachian Journal, Northern Appalachian Review, Pine Mountain Sand & Gravel, Change Seven Magazine, and the Women of Appalachia Project. She is the author of several poetry collections, including Who You Grow Into and Out of Places, and her work frequently explores themes of environmental change, Appalachian identity, family history, and the wisdom passed through generations of women.
Richardson is currently working on a poetry collection centered on the resilience of Appalachian women and their inherited knowledge of land, foodways, and survival. She is also the editor of the forthcoming anthology Rooted, Resilient, Rising: Women Growing Food Across the Mountains (University Press of Kentucky) and is co-editing a collection exploring the cultural relationships Appalachians have with the objects they keep, inherit, repair, and pass on.
She lives in Eastern Kentucky, where she continues to write, teach, and participate in the literary community across the Appalachian region.
